Our Story

As long as I can remember, I have had stomach aches; when I was hungry, when I was full, when I was sad, and of course, in the car! I was born in Northern Iran, close to the beautiful shores of Caspian Sea. My life was tranquil and peaceful up until the 1979 Iranian Revolution… Perhaps the start of my stomach aches? Probably not. But, the upheaval of the revolution certainly helped add fuel to the fire. The revolution impacted me as it did everyone else in that country. My daily GI issues were a nuisance. Fortunately, nothing debilitating but a nuance nonetheless. My parents dealt with it with natural remedies; horrible tasting teas, castor oil, some green liquid I would never want to try again… Arrrgh! Like that was not enough, I contracted Typhoid at the age of 13 while living in Tehran. My digestive system continued to get worse after that.

At 15, I immigrated to the US to Alexandria, Virginia. While I did feel much better physically and emotionally, my digestion issues did not go away completely. Over the last 3 decades, I have been on every single Proton Pump Inhibitor, PPI, medication that has been on the market.  Each worked well until my body would build immunity towards it which was generally 2-3 years after use. My doctors recommend me switching medication after couple of years.  By 2012, I had gone through them all and the symptoms continued. In 2014, I was taking over the counter medication every day and prescriptions medication from time to time as it really didn’t work and there wasn’t a new one on the market for me to try. On top of that, new research showed that there is an increased risk of dementia in consistent use of PPI medication.

Around the same time in 2014, I was introduced to essential oil therapy.  I was reluctant to rub a few drops of oil on my stomach hoping for a change in my health. I had become well integrated in the world of modern medicine and I had abandoned all the remedies I had been introduced to as a child. I was thinking as long as I exercised, meditated, and ate healthy, that was all the nature I needed. To me, ancient remedies were just that, ancient. In 2015, another friend was raving about the medicinal benefits of essential oils and how her entire family had benefited from them. I was reluctant and curious. Could it work? Should I try it? Why not? I figured it can’t be as bad as drinking antacid liquid from the bottle, so I gave it a chance.

Reluctantly, I started using oils, and voila—the symptoms were gone!  I have been using essential oils every day and I have truly become a new person. The first couple of weeks, I was thinking about how I had abandoned and dismissed using any old Persian remedies.  I continued adding more essential oils to my daily regimen for 2 other chronic ailments I have struggled with: sinus infections and sleep issues. My sinuses had started bothering me for the last 15 years.  I would be on antibiotics at least 3 times a year for sinus infections, sometimes up to four weeks at the time.  As for my sleep issues, while I didn’t take anything for it, it was impacting my daily energy level.

So far, essential oils have not let me down. I am a new person and grateful to have gotten a chance to learn more about them. Since 2015, I have enjoyed my cup of coffee every morning and a glass of wine almost every night without the fear of curling up in bed at 2 am in the morning with stomach muscle spasms. I have been able to avoid antibiotics for my sinus issues as they flared up, and I have slept MUCH better than I have since my mid-30s!

I started researching more about the origins of essential oils and other ancient remedies from around the world. If it has been used for thousands of years, can it be worth considering and reincorporating it back into our daily lives—especially as integrative medicine is taking on. Essential oils surely could have helped with my pregnancies, taking care of small children, and dealing with the stress of the corporate world! Could this field be something worth looking to? Are there enough organizations educating people and offering services and products around integrative medicine? If so, why had I not heard of them? Was I not open to learning more about complementary therapies? Why did I not know of it when my kids were young?  I had walked around the natural remedy aisles at Whole Foods many times and had tried a few of products and brands… Perhaps, I needed it to be more mainstream and better incorporated in our busy lives!

Perhaps, there is room for a company such as BlueFlower which addresses all angles of natural complementary therapy and self-care products and is ready to join this movement. I have worked hard and diligently to ensure that BlueFlower can be a trusted source of information while offering premium natural self-care products including essential oils.
